Odion Ighalo undergoes fitness camp following Manchester United transfer

Manchester United signing Odion Ighalo has been undergoing a special fitness regime following his return to English football.

Ighalo agreed a deadline day move to United last week and is adjusting to life in Manchester following completion of his five-month loan deal.

The 30-year-old has not played competitively since the start of December and is currently facing a race against the clock to regain match sharpness ahead of United's next fixture against Chelsea.

Ighalo is set to be part of the United side which travels to a warm weather training camp later this week as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side prepare for a crucial match at Stamford Bridge on Monday 17 February.

The Nigerian forward will train with the first-team squad all of next week, but has stepped up his preparations early by undergoing a special fitness regime at the National Taekwondo Centre in Newton Heath.

Ighalo took part in a session on Tuesday which saw him undergo a number of different exercises as he looks to build his overall fitness levels ahead of a packed fixture schedule.

"Good week so far with Ighalo, as we prepare him for his move to Manchester United," Richardson Sport wrote on social media. "Working behind the scenes. A fantastic Athlete, but the hard work begins."

Speaking after his arrival Ighalo reacted to his dream move to Old Trafford and set himself the immediate aim of helping United to move up the Premier League table.

”My ambition is to work hard with the team and make sure we finish well in the season and above where we are today," he told manutd.com.

"I saw the table yesterday and I know Man United is a big team, they are there at the top and now things are not going the way they should go. So my aim to contribute my own quarter to the team and make sure we finish good in the position.“
