Odion Ighalo sends cryptic message amid Manchester United transfer negotiations

Odion Ighalo appears to have sent a cryptic message to fans as they await confirmation of his loan extension at Manchester United .

The forward joined United in January and became an instant hit with supporters as well as providing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a useful option in the final third.

Ighalo netted four goals in just three starts for the club but the postponement of the Premier League season due to the coronavirus pandemic plunged his future into doubt. His loan contract with United expired on May 31 but MEN Sport sources revealed last week that an extended loan deal until January was "looking most likely".

One of the forward's representatives, Atta Aneka, confirmed on Monday that an agreement is close to being reached with Shanghai Shenhua.

"We are nearing an agreement with Manchester United on an extended loan," Aneke told Nettavisen. "The agreement will mean that Ighalo will remain with them until January 2021."

Ighalo took to Twitter on Monday morning, sharing a picture of himself sporting a huge grin alongside the message: "Happy new month fams."

The replies to his tweet were filled with United fans hoping to see the 30-year-old extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, MEN Sport understands United remain focused on landing their priority transfer targets Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham.

United took out a £140million credit loan last week in a hint that they are set to spend big ahead of the 2020-21 season.
