Odion Ighalo desperate to finish season with Man Utd amid coronavirus confusion

Odion Ighalo claims he wants to finish the season with Manchester United.

Ighalo’s loan from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua finishes at the end of the month and the Nigeria striker says he wants to remain at Old Trafford.

Ighalo, 30, has scored four goals in his eight appearances for United and is keen to finish the campaign with them before discussing a permanent deal.

“I would like to finish the season if it’s possible,” he said. “I was in good form, good shape, scoring goals and now we’ve stopped for over a month.

“I've given it my best and hopefully we’ll come back to play.

“The team had a good momentum before the pandemic started. At the moment I’m on loan and this will cut short my time at the club.

“The club, myself, every footballer is going through a lot because we can’t do what we love and what we know how to do best,.

“We’re just thinking about that for now and to finish the season before we start thinking about the contract.”

Ighalo's arrival came as a shock on deadline day with United seeking a striker.

But the former Watford man has proved the doubters wrong and been a worthy addition to a United attack that lost Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised the season-long efforts of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

“I think Mason, Anthony and Marcus this season, have been fantastic,” said the Norwegian.

“They’ve scored up towards 50 goals, the three of them.

“Marcus got his injury and he was on course for his best season. Anthony was on course for his best season and Mason is just a unique talent because of his goalscoring ability.”
