Odeon to open luxury new cinema in the North East - and it looks spectacular

Odeon is set to open a new luxury cinema in Durham city centre that will create 38 new jobs.

Located on the Riverwalk, the Odeon Luxe Durham has 403 luxury, handmade reclining seats across six cinema screens, offering film fans triple legroom and increased personal space.

There will also be a fully-reclining, state-of-the-art, 94-seat iSense screen, which is taller than a double decker bus.

The screen measures 15m x 6.2m, and is curved to maximise light reflection and has cutting-edge Dolby ATMOS 3D sound and 4K digital projectors that deliver almost nine million pixels for an even clearer, ultra-high definition picture.

Across all auditoriums, there will be 189 speakers with standard screens featuring state-of-the-art surround sound and state-of-the-art picture quality.

Cinema-goers will be able to enjoy an extensive range of food and drinks, including the popular Tango Blast, and there will drinks served from the Oscar's Bar.

The cinema will open in time for summer blockbusters including X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Men in Black: International and the new Lion King movie.

Miranda Harding, General Manager at ODEON Luxe Durham said: "We are hugely excited to bring the ODEON Luxe experience to Durham,  sharing our passion for film with the local community.

"The luxurious offerings, best in class cinema technology and delicious food and drink are sure to impress our guests."

The cinema will be the latest business to open on at the £30 million Riverwalk scheme.

Old Toms Gin Bar opened its doors in November, with Cost Club, Turtle Bay and boutique bowling alley Lane7 - are all scheduled to open in the summer.

Owned by Clearbell Capital, the development will also include 253 student flats.
