Odeon confirms reopening dates for 88 branches - see when your local will return

The UK's biggest cinema chain is set to reopen its doors from Saturday, July 4, with new safety measures including digital-only bookings and staggered screen times in place.

Odeon said 10 branches will be the first to reopen, including the chain's Trafford Centre outlet, with a further 87 set to return by 16 July.

It follows on from the government's plans to ease lockdown next month, with pubs, hotels and bars set to welcome visitors for the first time in four months.

Odeon said it has worked with the UK Cinema Association and UK government to introduce enhanced health and safety measures to each site.

It comes after rival Cineworld announced plans to reopen on July 10 with new social distancing maps for social bubbles.

Odeon's new safety measures will include limited seats on sale for each show and guaranteed unoccupied seats between guests to meet social distancing requirements.

It said families and social bubbles will be allowed to sit together.

There will also be staggered show start times to reduce queues, with queuing measures in place such as floor markings and cinema host support.

Carol Welch, managing director UK & IRE said: "We are excited to confirm that from 4 July, our UK cinemas will begin reopening.  We’ve carefully planned every step of our guest journey and put safety measures in place that will enable our highly trained colleagues to provide a controlled and safer cinema experience for all our guests.

"New measures include social distancing in our auditoriums and foyers, additional cleaning regimes, and a request to book tickets online prior to arrival.  We would like to thank our colleagues and guests for their patience during this period, and we can’t wait to welcome guests back to big screen entertainment and a safer cinema experience."

A mix of recent and remastered classics will be screened when branches resume, with 1917 and Empire Strikes Back, re-released and remastered in 4k for its 40 anniversary.

Other releases will include Sonic the Hedgehog and Onwards, Little Women, Bad Boys for Life, Dirty Dancing and The Greatest Showman.

New releases will include Dreambuilders and Unhinged later this summer.
