Odell Beckham Jr. wary of cheap shots and dirty play from Gregg Williams’ Jets defense

Back in 2017, the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns battled in a preseason game. Then with New York, star wideout Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a high ankle sprain on a nasty (but legal) hit from then-Browns DB Briean Boddy-Calhoun. It cost him a week of action, and Beckham has acknowledged he came back too quick from it and it contributed to a later injury.

On Thursday, Beckham pulled no punches. He blamed Gregg Williams for deliberately going after him.

Williams was the Browns defensive coordinator for that game. He’s now the coordinator for the New York Jets, this week’s Browns foe. And Beckham is wary of another cheap shot.

“It’s preseason. It’s like a known rule, in preseason nobody in the NFL’s really out to do stuff like that,” Beckham told reporters on Thursday. “I had players on this team telling me that that’s what he was telling them to do, take me out of the game, and it’s preseason. So you just know who he is. That’s the man calling the plays.”

Beckham will definitely be watching for any shenanigans on Monday night.

“The only thing I’m buying is you know probably just got to watch out for the cheap shots and the dirty hits and all the things that he likes to teach,” Beckham said of Williams and the Jets. “That’s pretty much all we’ve got to watch out for.”
