Odell Beckham Jr. posts cryptic tweet after offseason trade prediction

All signs point to the New York Giants moving on from Eli Manning. The 38-year-old quarterback’s decline has the Giants all-but-certain to take a quarterback with the No. 6 pick in the draft to go alongside Odell Beckham and Saquon Barkley.

That would be the case if Beckham is still around.

NFL insider Jay Glazer wrote — basically out of nowhere Wednesday — in a mailbag for The Athletic that an offseason trade of Odell Beckham would be his bold prediction. “I think that’s bold enough,” he wrote.

The prediction may have caught Beckham’s attention because the Pro Bowl receiver took to Twitter with a curious tweet of two emojis.

Before we let a “bold” prediction from Glazer send the Giants’ offseason drama into overdrive, let’s remember that New York gave Beckham a five-year, $90 million deal in 2018.

While every other team would have plenty of incentive to make a run at Beckham, it would make no sense for the Giants from a football and financial perspective.

The Giants would be eating $16 million to get rid of an elite talent at receiver while saving $5 million against the cap.

On the flip side, a team that traded for Beckham would get him on a five-year, $72.75 million deal — only around $8 million of that would be guaranteed. The Giants would be essentially selling Beckham off to a competitor at a T.Y. Hilton value. It’s a similar situation that the Steelers would face in an Antonio Brown trade.

New York would have little reason to go through with that kind of deal.
