Odell Beckham Jr.: ‘I can’t get a ball to save my life’ after awful 4th-down play goes incomplete

Fourth down and four yards to go. Game on the line. After a timeout to regroup, the Cleveland Browns offense heads back out with a chance to keep the comeback rolling in Denver.

Odell Beckham Jr. quickly gets more than one step on the cornerback up the left sideline. There was no safety help over the top and Beckham threw up his arm, desperate for a target.

Alas, it did not come. Baker Mayfield threw the ball to either Jarvis Landry or Demetrius Harris on short routes over the middle. It’s impossible to know which was the intended target because the two Browns receivers were standing in the exact same spot.

The pass fell harmlessly to the Mile High turf. Denver took over and ran out the clock in a 24-19 win, dropping the Browns to 2-6.

CBS sideline reporter Jay Feely noted from the sideline right after the failed fourth down,

“Odell (Beckham) walked by and said, ‘I can’t get a ball to save my life.’ ”

Beckham disgustedly threw his gloves as far as they could fly and glared at the field in disgust.

Sometimes that could be construed as selfish whining. In this case, Beckham’s frustration was perfectly justifiable. Ignoring one of the game’s best playmakers makes zero sense.
