Odell Beckham Jr.: Colts can be special with Matt Ryan

There were plenty of reactions to the Indianapolis Colts trading for Matt Ryan on Monday and one of the more interesting ones came from free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Twitter.

After the deal went through on Monday, Beckham Jr. tweeted out a “random thought” that he believes Ryan will be a good fit for the Colts and ultimately give them the chance to do something special.

While it’s unlikely the Colts will be one of the teams heavily interested in signing the free-agent wide receiver, it does show that acquiring Ryan may give the Colts a better chance at signing free agents now.

Beforehand, free agents were hesitant to sign with the Colts because the plan at quarterback was cloudy at best. With Ryan now in the fold in an offense being led by Frank Reich, the outlook is much more positive.

While on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, general manager Chris Ballard said he didn’t see the tweet but that he’s glad he approves.

“I didn’t see the tweet. I stay off of Twitter, but I’m glad he approves,” Ballard said. “He’s a good player.”

The Colts need to sign a veteran wide receiver to give Ryan some depth in the passing game. Beckham Jr. could be an option in the sense that he enjoyed a revival with the Los Angeles Rams after being released by the Cleveland Browns during the 2021 season.

However, Beckham Jr. is coming off of a torn ACL and we know how much the Colts are leaning into the notion of their players being ready for spring workouts so this may not be a match.
