'Ode to Greggs' sausage roll pie exists and you can try it at Ancoats pop-up market

One bakery is taking the traditional meat pastry a step further and combining two classics as an 'ode to Greggs' with their latest invention - a sausage roll pie.

Created by Potter’s Pies, the creation is packed full of steak and gravy, before being topped with pastry wrapped sausage rolls that are then encased within the flaky pastry lid.

The venue launched back in August at the Ancoats Pop-Up Market on Radium Street and has quickly become a firm fixture since, often teasing their impressive creations on Instagram for prospective customers to drool over.

Explaining their inspiration behind the dish, Potter’s Pies said on their Instagram: “King of the Steak Bake and the Sausage Roll, I've combined the two into a pie to salute Greggs and all that they've done for hangovers over the years.

“It was touch and go as to whether this would even work, but after rolling out the sausage rolls and egg washing them into place on top of the steak - I knew it was going to be a winner!”

The post attracted over 200 likes, with people claiming that the pie was ‘a game changer’.

One user tagged a friend and said: “Get me one of these tomorrow and I'll hug you forever”.

Another pleaded: “Take. My. Money.”

A third took it even further, simply writing:‘*licks screen*”.

Potter’s Pies is run by a mother and son duo who regularly attend the market, as well as selling their products to a variety of local pubs and bars in the Manchester area.

In a statement on their Instagram, they said: “We’re a mum and son pie-making duo, with three generations and a collective 60 years of experience in making the best bloody pies you’ll ever taste.

“Using only the freshest and best ingredients, with recipes that have been passed through the family- we also like to put a special Potter spin on many of your favourites.”

The menu boasts classic offerings such as the cheese and onion pie, a corned beef hash pie, pulled pork sausage rolls and many more, as well as new seasonal specials and inventive combinations, such as the chippy sausage with salt and vinegar scraps, or the bacon, mac and blue cheese pie.

They recently added a plant-based twist on the sausage roll pie so that veggies can get involved too, using a beef alternative and vegan sausages for the filling.
