Odds slashed on Leeds United to break worrying Premier League record

Bookmakers have tightened the odds on Leeds to concede the most goals ever in a Premier League season.

A disastrous few weeks has seen the Whites ship 17 goals in their last four games, with heavy defeats to Liverpool and Spurs signalling the end of Marcelo Bielsa’s three-and-a-half-year reign at Elland Road.

Former RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch was confirmed as the new man at the helm on Monday and faces the difficult task of stopping the rot and keeping Leeds in the top flight.

One of his key priorities will be shoring up a leaky backline that has been undone a whopping 60 goals so far this season.

Leeds’ current rate means they have conceded just over 2.3 goals per game - a worrying statistic that is reflective of just how deep-rooted their defensive problems lie.

William Hill are offering odds of 7/2 for the Whites to smash Derby’s 12-year Premier League record.

The Rams finished rock-bottom in 2007/08 - winning just one game all year - while shipping in a staggering 89 goals in the process.

This means Leeds would have to capitulate further by conceding at a rate of 3.1 goals per game, form that would surely guarantee a return to the Championship next season.

Pundits can receive odds of 5/4 for the Whites to break Derby’s record AND survive relegation - a feat that is surely beyond the realms of possibility.
