Odds slashed on Kai Havertz completing Chelsea transfer as Blues move ahead of Manchester United

Bookmakers have slashed odds on Chelsea to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

Havertz has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

But after reports emerged the Blues were interested in following up the expected signing of Timo Werner with another Germany international in Havertz, odds have been slashed.

Chelsea were initially priced at 25/1 to snap up the midfielder this summer by Paddy Power, but they have moved up six places on the list of favourites to second, now priced at 12/5.

Only one other team have better odds with Bayern Munich priced at 17/10.

Liverpool find themselves in third with odds of 12/1, the same price offered for Real Madrid, while Manchester United are at 16/1.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “The next destination for 20-year-old wonderkid Kai Havertz has been one of our most popular transfer markets in the few days.

“Chelsea have accounted for most of the cash as their odds continue to crumble, but our odds suggest he stay a little closer to home. Plus, our tin hats were firmly in place when he was left out of the squad to face Bayern at the weekend.”

Havertz has caught the eye for Leverkusen this season with 15 goals from midfield, along with eight assists across all competitions.

The 20-year-old also racked up 20 goals and seven assists last term.

Havertz is under contract at Leverkusen until 2022 and is valued at €100m.
