Odds slashed on Ireland's hottest summer ever as Met Eireann forecast heatwave update

Ladbrokes has slashed the odds on this summer going down as the hottest in Irish history.

As temperatures continue to soar, the bookies had no choice but to cut the odds for 2021 to be the Hottest Summer on Record.

The odds were previously even money but now stand at 1/3.

Ladbrokes spokesperson Nicola McGeady said: “The hot weather is continuing to cheer up the nation and with temperatures remaining high, the odds suggest this summer will go down in the history books as the hottest on record.”

Over the past few days, Ireland has seen extremely hot weather, with most of the country reaching over 20 degrees.

Yesterday, the mercury climbed as high as 30 degrees in parts of the country.

Multiple weather warnings are currently in place across the country as scorching temperatures hit.

A Status Orange High Temperature warning is currently for Cavan, Monaghan, south Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath until 9am on Friday.

Meanwhile a Status Yellow High Temperature warning for the rest of Ireland is also in place.

The forecast for today is for “a hot and mostly dry day. Highest temperatures of 27 to 30 degrees generally.”

Tonight will be " very warm and humid… with any remaining showers fizzling out early on, leaving a dry night with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Temperatures again staying above 17 to 20 degrees for much of the night.”

Tomorrow will be hot too, with “highest temperatures of 25 to 29 degrees.”

The glorious sunshine and heatwave temperatures could be set to fall however.

Met Eireann has warned of a major change next week. From Friday onwards showers will start to fall again, primarily in Munster and along coastal areas.

While we should see sunny spells throughout Saturday and Sunday, forecasters are warning that temperatures will start to drop by the weekend.

"Monday will bring further showers which will be more widespread especially across the western half of the country. There will be bright or sunny intervals also. Highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees, warmest along east coast due to a moderate northwest breeze.

"Rather changeable with showers on Tuesday and possible longer spells of rain mid-week. Temperatures falling further back, with highs in the high teens to low 20s and cooler nights too."
