Odds slashed on a White Easter amid reports that a 270-mile 'snow bomb' could be on the way

Ireland could be set for a White Easter amid reports that a 270-mile 'snow bomb' is on course to strike the UK next month.

Despite Met Eireann predicting that brighter evenings are on the way with warmer temperatures expected next week, long-range forecasts suggest a 'polar snow weather bomb’ is set to hit parts of the UK in March.

According to WX Charts, a storm will arrive on March 9 and blanket huge swathes of the country in snow.

And the wintry weather could continue into April, with the UK Met Office saying "a white Easter is more likely than a white Christmas".

Meteorologist Grahame Madge told Somerset Live : "It’s possible that we could get snow in March.

"In fact, it’s more likely we will get snow in March than in December."

The speculation that a snow storm could be heading towards the UK suggests that a White Easter could be on the cards and has led one bookmakers to slash the odds on snowfall in Ireland on Easter Sunday.

BoyleSports were forced to cut the odds of snow at Dublin Airport on Easter Sunday on April 4 into 5/1 from a high of 20/1 at the start of the year.

Muted St. Patrick’s Day celebrations may also face a freezing backdrop this year as BoyleSports are offering odds of 15/8 that it snows in Dublin on March 17.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The temperatures have made a welcome jump in recent days but the money we’re seeing suggests we shouldn’t be ditching the winter woollies just yet.

"Forecasters believe the snow will be back and while we avoided paying out on a White Christmas, snow at Easter is growing increasingly likely at 5/1 from 20/1.”
