Duncan Ferguson is now favourite to become Everton’s next permanent manager, following his appointment as caretaker boss on Tuesday.
The Scotsman will take temporary charge for the Blues’ upcoming games, with a permanent manager expected to be named in due course, as per the club’s statement.
It is the second time that Ferguson will be the main man in the Everton dugout after his brief spell leading the club in December 2019.
Rafa Benitez left his position as Everton manager on Sunday after a run of one win in 13 league games.

Defeat to relegation-threatened Norwich City a day earlier proved to be the last straw for owner Farhad Moshiri, who put an end to Benitez’s six-and-a-half month spell in charge.
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez is understood to have initially been approached to replace Benitez and make a remarkable return to Goodison, having left the club in 2016.
However, with the Belgian FA having reportedly resisted Everton’s interest, Ferguson is now viewed as favourite with the bookmakers to take the position on a full-time basis.
Former Blue Wayne Rooney is also not too far behind his ex-teammate, according to the odds, with Frank Lampard also among the top contenders.
