Odds dramatically cut on Bristol Rovers manager Graham Coughlan to be the next Plymouth Argyle manager

Graham Coughlan has moved in to second favourite to be the next Plymouth Argyle manager.

According to the Sack Race, the Bristol Rovers manager is now 6/4 second favourite to become the next Home Park boss following Derek Adams' departure over the weekend.

It is a dramatic movement, with Coughlan not even featuring in the betting as little as 24 hours ago.

Whilst Coughlan is an Argyle legend - he made 177 league appearances for the club - this seems a surprising development as he has been in charge of Rovers for just under four months and signed a two-and-a-half year contract when appointed manager.

He secured Rovers' safety in League One with a goalless draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday and, post-match, revealed he was excited for what the summer had in store for the club.

Coughlan said: "Any football club I've joined, I've always prided myself on leaving it in a far better state than when I've walked into it.

"That's as a player and a coach and as a manager, I pride myself on that.

"Irrespective of what happens with Graham Coughlan, this club is in League One next season, it's in a better state than when I picked it up and I'm proud of that.

"I love the academy side of things as well, we've had two debutants this year with Deon Moore and Alfie Kilgour, and I would have loved to have come up here and given kids like Luca Hoole and Lucas Tomlinson some game time because they've been thriving in the academy and with the under-23s, so there's lots and lots to look forward to.

"Hopefully we can have a big summer and we can get something going."

Coughlan is part of a trio of Rovers managers at the head of the betting for the job.

Ian Holloway remains favourite, with his odds having moved in to evens, whilst Darrell Clarke has slipped to third favourite with odds of 10/1.

Here are the top candidates according to the bookies:

Ian Holloway - 1/1

Graham Coughlan - 6/4

Darrell Clarke - 10/1

Keith Hill - 14/1

Gary Johnson - 14/1

Paul Hurst - 16/1
