Octopus Energy expands UK footprint with new Birmingham office

An energy company is creating at least 40 new jobs in Birmingham by opening an office in the city centre.

Privately owned Octopus Energy supplies more than two million households across the country and has chosen Birmingham to launch a new sales office which will provide potential customers with advice on switching and products.

Its new base at 23 Colmore Row adds to its operations in Brighton, Leicester, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Warwick.

The company said the expansion into Birmingham is part of its wider plan to create 1,000 new green jobs in the UK by the end of this year to help the country build back greener after the pandemic.

This latest move follows a busy 2020 for the firm after it opened two new offices in the UK, expanded two others and launched in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.

Octopus Energy was founded in 2016 with the aim of using technology to make green energy affordable and transform customers' experiences.

Director Neil Woolley said: "We're so excited to be bringing loads more green jobs to Birmingham through our new dedicated sales office.

"Birmingham will become a hub for training up our staff to spread the word about cheap green power and get more and more people to join in the renewable energy revolution.

The new office is in the Imperial and Whitehall suites which were opened as part of the renovation of the Grand Hotel building in Colmore Row.

Octopus Energy has agreed a three-year lease deal with landlord Hortons' Estate.

Nina Meeks, management surveyor with Hortons' Estate, added: "We are very pleased that our investment in the building has attracted Octopus Energy to base its new Birmingham office here and we wish them every success."
