Oct. 21, 2015, 'Back to the Future' day. How'd we do?

Oct. 21--It's "Back to the Future" day -- Oct. 21, 2015 -- that day Marty McFly traveled to the future in the second installment of the movie trilogy.

While the Cubs still have a very long shot at winning the World Series, fax machines are all but over.

The closest thing we have to those super-cool hoverboards (a levitating skateboard) is the Segway and the IO Hawk. Shoes do not tie themselves, and we don't have dust-repellent paper in books. Newspapers, USA Today in particular, are still around ... mostly.

A matrix by Vox shows that not all of the predictions were out of this world. Some actually hit the mark, like video chatting (aka "Facetiming") and using your thumbprint as a key. Flying cars and a world free of lawyers? Not so much.

To commemorate the day, USA Today's print edition included a replica of the newspaper's front page shown in the movie, although they took out a blurb about Queen Diana, for obvious reasons. Also, marathon screenings of the film will be shown around the country, the original cast will appear in New York City and Michael J. Fox (McFly) is scheduled to appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

As for the Cubs? As another '80s-era icon once said, "Keep hope alive."
