PSYCHEDELIC surf-rock heavyweights Ocean Alley are dropping into Newcastle on their comeback to live performance following the COVID lockdown.
In their biggest Hunter show to date, the triple j Hottest 100 winners will bring their Lonely Diamond tour to the Civic Theatre on March 27, with support from Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.
Ocean Alley will make their return to the stage on Friday at Night Quarter on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, but last week's easing of COVID restrictions encouraged the five-piece to add Melbourne (January 21), Canberra (February 6) and Newcastle gigs.
Under the changes the 1500-seat Civic Theatre can operate at 75 per cent capacity.
In June Ocean Alley released their third album Lonely Diamond, which followed their breakthrough 2018 release, Chiaroscuro, that spawned the triple j Hottest 100-winning track Confidence.
Ocean Alley, which features ex-Warners Bay High student Angus Goodwin on lead guitar, are among the biggest influences on the Newcastle music scene.
Bands like Mission: Banana, Bluetide and Rum Jungle are all indebted to their mix of psych, funk and classic rock.
