OC Kevin O’Connell’s play-calling can lead the Redskins to a victory in Miami

Under a new head coach and a gifted play-caller, the Washington Redskins hope to create an identity on offense. With Bill Callahan stressing the importance of the running game, and supposed offensive mastermind Kevin O’Connell now calling the plays, there are signs of life in the Redskins locker room, and it just might show itself on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

For O’Connell, who has been gifted the play sheet for the rest of the season, this will really act as a coming-out party, as his name has been thrown around in Washington’s search for a new head coach. With comparisons to former Redskins’ coaches like Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur, the offensive coordinator can really improve his stock by putting some points on the board this week. In order to do that, he plans to focus on some of the playmakers that are spread throughout the offense in Washington.

Though the narrative has been that the Redskins are void of many talents, that simply isn’t true. WR Terry McLaurin has proven to be a difference-maker already this season, and undrafted rookie Steven Sims has given the team several bursts on offense when the need it.

Though it will be the players on the field who ultimately decide the outcome, look for O’Connell to be the mastermind behind it all, pulling the strings. If he wishes to be considered for the top jobs any time soon, he will need to prove his worth on Sunday against one of the worst defenses in the league.
