Feb. 14--The Blackhawks appeared to dodge the worst with Marian Hossa's injury Saturday night in their 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks. According to coach Joel Quenneville, Hossa is not expected to miss "weeks" of time for an apparent leg injury he suffered in the second period after a hit from Hampus Lindholm. The Hawks exited the United Center worried about Hossa and a couple other things.
Replacing Hossa
First things first, the Hawks are going to have to replace Hossa, a right winger, for at least a chunk of time. The first name that might leap to mind for Quenneville to pair with center Jonathan Toews and winger Andrew Shaw is Teuvo Teravainen, who has been playing right wing for most of the last six weeks.
Although Quenneville was curt in his response to a question that asked if he might slot Teravainen on the top line.
"Well, the opportunity's been there. Just grab it," Quenneville said.
Toews said the Hawks will miss Hossa while he is gone.
"We all know what he means to our team offensively and defensively all over the rink. It's never easy but we'll find a way," Toews said.
Seabrook's big night
Brent Seabrook's two goals helped the Hawks salvage a point when the Ducks outplayed and outshot them. Seabrook set a career high on Saturday by tallying his 10th goal of the season. He had tallied nine three other times.
"He's so steady," Toews said. "I think he's finally putting up the numbers we all know he's always been capable of. His shot is amazing. If he gets a chance it's rare that he's going to miss."
Corsi look
It wasn't pretty for the Hawks any way you want to slice shot or possession numbers. The Ducks had more shots on goal (44-23), total shots overall (74-38) and even strength (55-32). Taken score effects into account, according to war-on-ice.com, the Ducks outshot the Hawks 53-29.3 in even strength situations.
When Quenneville said after the game, "I don't think we deserved a point," you can see why.
