DAYTON, Ohio _ An injury to Obi Toppin marred an otherwise great day at UD Arena for the Dayton Flyers and their fans.
Toppin appeared to roll his left ankle in the second half and left the game. He returned to the bench in the final minutes with a protective boot on the ankle but said, "It's good," as he headed to the locker room after No. 15 Dayton's 88-60 victory against Massachusetts on Saturday.
Toppin scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Five other Flyers scored in double figures: Ryan Mikesell (15); Trey Landers (13); Jalen Crutcher (12); and Rodney Chatman (11).
Dayton improved to 14-2 and 3-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference with its fifth straight victory.
Dayton shot 51% from the field and 38% (8 of 21) from 3-point range.
The Flyers opened the game on a 14-2 run and dominated the rest of the half, building a 48-22 halftime lead in their A-10 home opener at UD Arena.
Dayton built its largest halftime lead of the season. It led La Salle by 22 at halftime two games ago. It has not trailed at halftime this season and most of the time has held double-digit leads, though it was tied at halftime with Saint Joseph's in its previous game.
Toppin led the Flyers with 14 points in the first half on 6-of-9 shooting. Mikesell and Crutcher scored eight each. Mikesell had eight of his game-high 14 rebounds in the opening half.
