WASHINGTON _ Former White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes is set to be interviewed Wednesday morning by the House Intelligence Committee, says a person familiar with the panel's schedule.
The committee, like its Senate counterpart, has been investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and any collusion with the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.
But Republicans on the House panel, led by Chairman Devin Nunes of California, also have been looking into whether staff in the Obama administration may have improperly sought the "unmasking" of the names of Americans _ particularly Trump associates _ that appeared in intelligence documents from classified surveillance of foreigners.
On Rhodes, specifically, Nunes wrote to the National Security Agency on Aug. 1 requesting the total number of unmasking requests made by him in the 13 months preceding Trump's inauguration.
The committee already has interviewed other Obama administration officials on the topic, including former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, said multiple committee members, each of whom didn't want to be identified because those interviews were held in private.
Rhodes already has been interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee, in July.
