Barack Obama has joked that Stephen Colbert could do a better job as president than “some folks we've seen”.
Mr Colbert, whose hosting stint on The Late Show is coming to an end this month, laughed as he told Mr Obama that he is “looking for a new gig soon”.
“A lot of people tell me I should run for president,” the host explained, to which Mr Obama conceded that he has got the right look for it.
When Mr Colbert dismissed the notion as a “stupid idea”, the former president replied: “The bar has changed.”
“Put it this way: I think you could perform significantly better than some folks that we’ve seen. I have great confidence in that.”
