Oasis superfans travel over 6,500 miles to see band play at Wembley

Two Oasis superfans have travelled more than 6,500 miles to see the band perform at Wembley Stadium this evening.

Nabil Noor, 28, and Diana Ismail, 27, travelled from Singapore to watch Oasis’ first gig in London since 2009.

The pair have seen Liam Gallagher perform three times, but have made a special trip to the capital to see him play with brother Noel this evening.

They paid around one thousand Singapore dollars, roughly £500, for two tickets and spent around £2,000 on flights for a one-week stay in London.

“We didn’t get any gigs in Singapore on the world tour so we had to come here”, said Mr Noor.

“It’s their first gig back in London. The last one was in 2009. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere. Even though it’s not a home town gig. London is usually a big event.”

The couple said they have previously seen Liam Gallagher perform in Singapore and at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

First in line to get to ito the stadium was Heather Lhote, a superfan who flew in from Paris especially to see the band perform.

She said she is “tired but excited”, with this being the first time she has seen Oasis live.

The first 2,000 fans to arrive today with standing tickets got upgraded to an entrance giving them priority to get to the front first.

Another fan, Andrea Di Donfrancesco is embarking on an Oasis tour of his own, having flown in from Bologna in Italy to see the band perform in Cardiff, Manchester, and now in London.

When asked how much he spent on the tickets, he replied: "Too much!”

Fans have also travelled in from across the UK. Daniel Harrison, 32, and Heather Munro, 37, have arrived from Aberdeen with three of their friends for the gig.

Mr Harrison said: “We thought it was a good chance to get tickets since it’s such a big venue. Edinburgh hasn’t got as many hotels around it.”

He added that dynamic pricing meant he paid £500 for his ticket. Ms Munro was able to get hers for face value.

“I had the fear of missing out and my friends going without me,” he explained.

The Aberdeen pals plan on spending the day in an Oasis fan zone at Box Park Wembley before heading into the stadium.

Hailing from Worcester, Jake Julian, 25, has also made the journey into London this afternoon to see Oasis at Wembley Stadium.

“I’m absolutely buzzing. I’ve seen Liam a handful of times. I’m lucky enough to have met Noel very quickly and have got his autograph,” he said. “It’s absolutely amazing - generational. Dads and lads as they say. They’re working class heroes.”

He added: “Just being here amongst it. Everyone is in a good mood. Couple of drinks and that. I think you’re not true to yourself if you don’t have a tear in your eye at some point.

“We’ll be holding each other and holding each other. Keeping it real.”

Sam Bowring, 37, and his son Riley Bowring, 14, have arrived from Manchester this morning.

With seated tickets beside the pitch, they’re not here to queue just yet, but to soak in the atmosphere.

“I did see them Heaton Park the last time they were together,” said Sam. “It was about 2008, before it all crashed.”

He continued: “It’s like a dream come true. It’ll probably be our last as well. They’ll be off into the sunset after this tour!”

Others have travelled across London and Essex for the gig. Kai, Mariko, Dave, and Suni were strangers until a few hours ago, but have befriended one another in the queue, united by their love of the band.

They tell The Standard that they have met someone here all the way from Texas.

The youngest fan, Kai, has already see Oasis in Cardiff and is now back for more. In the past year, he’s committed to early starts for Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, and Stevie Wonder.

“This guy knows more than I do about music,” said Dave of his younger counterpart.

With tourism spend having risen by 118 percent and taxi and limo takings soaring by 148 per cent in Manchester last week, it is likely that London will also see a spike in local spending as fans flood into the capital.
