OAP treated by paramedics after blaze breaks out at high-rise flats in Glasgow

A pensioner has been treated by paramedics after a fire broke out within a high-rise block of flats in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Glenavon Road in the Maryhill area of the city at around 10.30pm on Friday.

At least five fire appliances were in attendance alongside police and paramedics with one occupier requiring medical treatment.

It is understood that an elderly man was given oxygen by the Scottish Ambulance Service after suffering from minor smoke inhalation.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to Glenavon flats on Friday night.

They said: “We were called to reports of a small fire within a property at around 10.30pm.

“The multi-storeys require an immediate response with at least five appliances in attendance.

“There was one casualty, an elderly male, who suffered minor smoke inhalation and was given oxygen by the ambulance.”
