Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died in North Belfast over the weekend.
The death, at Oakley Street off the Crumlin Road, had been described as “suspicious” but following a postmortem, police now believe the man may have been murdered.
In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, they said: “Detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team have launched a murder enquiry following the discovery of the body of a man in North Belfast on Saturday, 23 May.”
The Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Darren McCartney, said: “Following the results of a postmortem examination police investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in a house in Oakley Street in North Belfast shortly before 11pm on Saturday 23 May are treating it as a murder enquiry.
“The investigation is ongoing and there are no further details available at this time.”
In their statement issued on Sunday, the police said a “34 year old man has been arrested as part of the investigation and remains in custody at this time”. Their statement issued today did not mention any arrests.
