Oakfield Avenue in Glasgow closed as tenement building causes safety concerns

A street in the west end of Glasgow has been forced to close due to concerns about a dangerous building.

Fencing has been thrown up on Oakfield Avenue between Glasgow Street and Bellgrove Lane off Great Western Road in the Hillhead area to prevent through traffic.

The building in question concerns a four-storey blonde sandstone tenement near the junction of Oakfield Avenue and Glasgow Street.

Two entrances to the tenement, near the junction of both streets, have been boarded up to prevent entry.

It is not yet known if current residents have been asked to leave the building, although flats still appear to contain furniture.

Glasgow City Council's have confirmed that the road will remain closed until further notice.

The traffic management department (TRAFFCOM) confirmed news of the road closure in a bulletin earlier today, which read: "Due to a dangerous building it has been necessary to close Oakfield Avenue between Glasgow Street and Bellgrove Lane.

"Oakfield Avenue will remain closed until further notice."

Glasgow City Council have been contacted for further comment.
