Public schools will be closed next week in Oak Park as officials move to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Elementary School District 97 and Oak Park and River Forest High School will have remote classes between March 16 and March 20, and the districts will observe spring break the week after, officials from both districts said. Classes have been canceled Friday, but teachers are required to attend to develop their e-learning plans.

District 97 plans to reopen schools March 30. OPRF did not say when they would be reopening.

Students may stop by their school between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Friday to pick up books, valuables and other items, officials said.

The announcement comes after similar closures at schools and colleges across the Chicago area.
