Oak Forest man charged in Orland Park home invasion

June 20--An Oak Forest man is one of two men who entered an Orland Park house last month and restrained two residents before fleeing with a wall safe holding cash and jewelry, police said.

Timothy R. Adkins, 30, of the 15300 block of Merlin Court, is charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery with no firearm, two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint and two counts of home invasion, according to Orland Park police. He's being held under $750,000 bail.

They said one of the victims of the home invasion called police about 8:30 a.m. May 29, saying two men had just left the home in the 7500 block of Halesia Court, taking the safe.

The intruders entered through an unlocked front door and restrained two women during the heist while another resident slept in a different part of the house, police reported.

They said the investigation determined that the victims were not random targets. Adkins was identified as a possible suspect in a photo lineup, police Cmdr. John Keating said, and police obtained an arrest warrant for him June 2.

He said police tracked him to an apartment in the 17300 block of Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park, where he was arrested without incident. The apartment belonged to "an associate" of Adkins, Keating said, without elaborating.

The two victims later identified Adkins as one of the thieves during a physical lineup at the Orland Park Police Department, according to police. They said "additional persons of interest have been identified," and the investigation is continuing.

Police haven't disclosed how much money was taken and haven't recovered any proceeds from the robbery, Keating said.
