O’Shea: “Intangibles” Are Most Important In Next Dolphins QB

Perhaps no coach on coach Brian Flores’ staff is more instrumental to executing the team’s vision than offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea. O’Shea, a fellow transplant from New England who came along with Flores, will be responsible for helping to shape the Dolphins’ offense in this time of transition.

When meeting with the South Florida media on Friday morning, O’Shea was quick to echo the sentiments of Flores and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham: the Dolphins are going to keep teams guessing.

“That’s why we don’t talk about specific scheme,” said O’Shea when asked. “We talk about being multiple. We talk about being able to adjust. That’s a word that is definitely an important part of our offense…”

But an offense is only as good as the man under (or these days, behind) center. And with the reports that the Dolphins are readying themselves to part ways with veteran QB Ryan Tannehill, the quarterback position is in a big state of flux.

What are the Dolphins, and specifically Chad O’Shea, looking for in their franchise quarterback?

“I think the most important thing in our quarterback moving forward here, whoever that is, is that we want great traits…the intangibles are most important to us. Obviously, leadership is very important – work ethic…I think the quarterback position is a unique position because there’s a lot of pressure that goes on with that position.”

O’Shea wants Miami’s quarterback to be the “greatest ambassador on your football team”.

That may not narrow the field of potential free agents or draft selections too much, but it does set an expectation that Miami won’t be in the market for timidness under center.
