O.J. Simpson on RB Melvin Gordon, Ezekiel Elliott: ‘Pay these guys’

Former NFL running back, O.J. Simpson made a Twitter account not too long ago and he is throwing all his opinions out left and right. He has been using the platform to discuss everything known to mankind.

On Tuesday, the Hall of Famer took to social media to share his beliefs that the Chargers and Cowboys need to pay running backs Melvin Gordon and Ezekiel Elliott soon, rather than letting them holdout.

Simpson starts with his explanation for Elliott and then shares his thoughts on why he believes Los Angeles needs to give Gordon his money.

“I kind of understand the situation with [Melvin] Gordon, because he misses games …plus [the Los Angeles Chargers] have some pretty good backups, but when this guy is on the field playing — he’s one of the best in the game.

I think you can probably do an incentive-based contract. This is not the kind of guy you can afford to have miss training camp, because I guarantee you, he will get hurt. …[Running backs] have the shortest position careers in the NFL, and we may be limping the rest of our life.

Pay these guys,” Simpson said.

In the video, Simpson showed the scar of his knee replacement to resemble what could happen to Gordon, let alone anyone at the running back position.

He makes the point that the longer he’s not on the field, the bigger risk of injury. Gordon has been training down in Florida to stay conditioned in case both parties come to an agreement, but not getting any live reps could be critical to his performance and longevity of his knee, barring a return.

The latest on Gordon is that his agent requested a trade last week after hearing the team’s original offer of $10 million, but general manager Tom Telesco declined.

The holdout continues.
