New Zealand authorities say a fire which ravaged the tourist town of Lake Ohau is contained despite the threat of high winds.
Local mayor Gary Kircher said the majority of buildings in the hamlet, with a regular population of 20, had been destroyed.
"It's a minor miracle that no-one has been harmed," he told Radio NZ.
The fire burned through the central South Island town in the early hours of Sunday and has burned around 5000 hectares.
Radio NZ reports 50 homes - mainly used as holiday homes - were destroyed or rendered unihabitable in the blaze.
Hundreds of sheep have been killed, with around 200 people checking in at an evacuation centre at nearby Twizel.
Firefighters are using helicopters and ground crews to contain the fire on Monday, aiming to keep it away from electricity infrastructure despite high wind warnings.
