NYPD Called To Disperse Illegal Encampments At The New School

New York City Police Department (NYPD) police officers

The New School has reached out to the New York Police Department (NYPD) for help in addressing the presence of illegal encampments within their university center building and residence hall. This request was made in response to students and individuals from outside the university community trespassing into the lobby of the University Center building at 63 Fifth Avenue and the lobby of the Kerrey Hall residence hall at 65 Fifth Avenue.

In a letter addressed to the police, the university emphasized that the safety and security of The New School Community is their top priority. The university expressed concern over the actions of these individuals, stating that their behavior poses a significant disruption to the educational environment and the regular operation of the university.

The university has informed the students multiple times that their actions, which include setting up tents and structures within campus spaces and damaging university property, are in direct violation of the university’s rules and policies.

Efforts to address the situation have led to the involvement of law enforcement to ensure the removal of the illegal encampments and restore order within the university premises. The New School is taking proactive measures to uphold the integrity of its campus and provide a safe and conducive learning environment for its students and staff.
