NYC schools to remain open Monday, Mayor de Blasio says

NEW YORK — City schools will remain open Monday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said, pointing to the latest COVID infection rate.

The latest seven-day average of COVID tests coming back positive was 2.57%, according to de Blasio, who previously set 3% as the level that would trigger school closure.

"Thankfully, schools will remain open on Monday," he tweeted Sunday, "but we have to keep fighting back with everything we've got."

Recent weeks have seen an alarming uptick in COVID cases in New York City and nationwide. On Friday, the city imposed a 10 p.m. curfew for bars, restaurants and gyms, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo has deemed most of Staten Island a "yellow zone" entailing further restrictions.
