NUST wishes supporters' group leading legal bid against the Premier League 'the best'

The Newcastle United Supporters Trust has revealed a phone call between its chair and one of the fans leading the legal bid against the Premier League over the failed Toon takeover.

Trust chairman Greg Tomlinson, who only came to the post last week after replacing Alex Hurst, spoke to Keith Patterson one of the pair leading the Newcastle Consortium Supporters Limited (NSCL).

NSCL have launched a legal bid against the Premier League on the grounds that the organisation breached competition rules when it came to addressing the attempted Saudi-led buy-out of United.

Last week they finally received a response from the Premier League in the form a nine-page letter with the next step in the process still being ironed out.

The Trust, via Twitter, said: "Earlier today NUST Chair (Greg Tomlinson) spoke with Keith Patterson from NCSL on the phone - 97% of our members want this takeover to go ahead and we will continue to push the Premier League for transparency through the avenues that are available to us.

"We wish NCSL the best."

NSCL responded to say it welcomed the correspondence with the Trust: "NCSL today spoke to Gregg Thomlinson, NUST’s Chair [and] both agreed on the merits of supporting each other.

"With 97% of members supporting the takeover, we welcome this arrangement.

"NUFC are stronger together with a truly United fan base!

"We all want answers!"

Newcastle United confirmed last week it had begun arbitration against the Premier League with regards the failed takeover.
