Nursery child in South Ayrshire tests positive for coronavirus

A child at a South Ayrshire nursery school has tested positive for coronavirus.

The case was confirmed today at Granny Smith's Nursery in Troon.

The child is said to have very mild symptoms as they recover at home.

NHS test and trace teams have been in contact with the nursery following the positive test.

Those identified as being in close contact have been placed in 14 day isolation.

Lynne McNiven, Director of Public Health for NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: “We appreciate this is a very worrying time.

“However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect children and staff.

“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

“We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell.

“Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately.”
