Nurse left red-faced after forgetting mic was turned on during a meeting

A nurse was left red-faced after forgetting her microphone was turned on during a meeting and issuing a very sweary response when her name was mentioned.

Sharing her story anonymously, the woman said she was notified last minute that she would have to attend a virtual meeting.

During the meeting she sat patiently and listened to what was said, then someone addressed her by name adding 'does anyone have any questions for her?'

Then the nurse instantly blurted out "oh f**k, here we go" thinking her mic was muted, but it wasn't and the meeting abruptly ended a few minutes later.

Taking to Reddit, the woman said: "I had an appointment dropped into my calendar that involved the emergency department and the mental health rooms.

"I did my best to prepare for the meeting, reviewed policies I thought may be relevant etc but was essentially going in blind.

"The meeting went fairly well. The group is doing good work, and I acknowledged that. I brainstormed some ideas with the group and gave some suggestions to move forward.

"As the meeting was wrapping up, the leader said 'well since we have (removed) here, does anyone have any questions for her?'

"I, thinking I was muted, said 'oh f**k, here we go'. It was a stress response and should have been an internal thought.

"I speak frankly, but 100 per cent thought I was muted.

"There were crickets from the group and the presenter responded, 'ok, so, no - thanks everyone'."

The woman added that she was stressed and hadn't dialled into the meeting in the usual manner, opting to use her computer instead of her phone.

After sharing her story online, other Reddit users commented on her post to offer reassurance.

One said: "Say nothing, and if accused deny it and say you were talking about something else."

While a second added: "Usually on virtual meetings, there’s a lot of feedback on the audio if there are two microphones on next to each other. Maybe you lucked out and didn’t have the second one turned on."

And a third wrote: "Tech person here. This sort of thing goes on constantly in our meetings and sometimes results in comedy gold. I usually just laugh my ass off and enjoy the situation."
