'Nurse kicked in face' at Royal Victoria Hospital by patient she's treating

A nurse has been kicked in the face and two paramedics threatened at a Belfast hospital, police have said.

The attack happened as a man was receiving treatment for facial injuries he has sustained in an altercation.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police were required to restrain this male whilst staff continued to tend to his medical needs.

"Police today arrested a male at the Royal Victoria Hospital after he kicked a female nurse in the face and threatened two more ambulance paramedics whilst they attempted to help him after receiving facial injuries during an earlier altercation.

"The male was then further arrested for a number of detected drug offences and transported to Musgrave custody suite.

"A search of his premises authorised by an Inspector was carried out during which a large quantity of ready to go bags of suspected cannabis were uncovered along with other drug paraphernalia.

"The suspect will now not only be questioned about assaulting medical staff but about their suspected involvement in the supply of Class B drug and other offences."
