Nurse blasts 'shameless' Brits queuing for fish and chips in coronavirus lockdown

A nurse slammed "shameful" customers who were pictured queuing for fish and chips less than 24 hours after the UK coronavirus lockdown.

The nurse, who asked to only be named as Hannah, said she was "ashamed to be British" after spotting the long queue outside Fryday's in Roundhay, Leeds on Tuesday night.

As Yorkshire Live says, the nurse tweeted: "Ashamed to be British right now. The amount of people out and about this evening is utterly shameful - hanging around in big groups, the lake in Roundhay busier than any normal weekend and a queue this size outside.

"What is it going to take for people to take this seriously? You’ll wish you listened to government advice when there’s no room on ICU for your grandma in a few weeks time! Please just stay indoors!"

But since the photo emerged online, Fryday's has closed all of its branches across the UK.

The country remains in lockdown after Boris Johnson, 55, ordered all non-essential businesses to shut.

In a strict address to the nation on Monday night, the Prime Minister said: "I know the damage that this disruption is doing and will do to people’s lives, to their businesses and to their jobs.

“At present there are just no easy options.

“The way ahead is hard, and it is still true that many lives will sadly be lost.”

Gatherings of more than two people in public are banned, unless they are members of your own household.

Social events, weddings and baptisms are also axed – though funerals can still go ahead.

Rule-breakers face being clobbered with on-the-spot fines of £30, though they could be hiked up.

The lockdown has been introduced by a Government regulation under the Public Health Control of Diseases Act 1984.
