Nuno Tavares' strengths and weaknesses after completing medical ahead of £6.8m Arsenal transfer

Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the summer transfer window.

It was late last month when the Gunners started making moves, with bids submitted for as many as four players including Brighton and Hove Albion central defender Ben White.

As reported by football.london, a £40m offer was rejected, but a decision has been made to return with a second offer and despite links with Manchester City and Everton, Arsenal remain confident of signing the England international.

But the north London outfit aren't solely focusing on concluding a deal for the 23-year-old as manager Mikel Arteta looks to complete a 'ruthless' overhaul of his first-team squad.

Arsenal are also set to complete the signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht.

As reported by football.london, after negotiations began a fortnight ago, an agreement has now been reached for a fee in the region of €17.5million euros, which could rise to €22million (£18m) depending on bonuses.

The midfielder has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners and is expected to complete a medical shortly.

With that said, one player who has already completed a medical - as per Portuguese news outlet Record - is left-back Nuno Tavares, who is closing in on a £6.9m transfer to Arsenal.

The 21-year-old had also been linked with Brighton, Southampton and Napoli but is Emirates Stadium bound to provide cover and competition for Kieran Tierney.

So what type of player are the Gunners getting for £6.9m?

Well, judging by the image above via WhoScored, Tavares' strengths based on the last two seasons include crossing, key passes and blocks.

Meanwhile, his playing style is described as someone who likes to cross often and is not afraid to commit fouls.

All of which describes the perfect attacking left-back, in particular his crossing, as that could result in him racking up a number of assists for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and company next season.

But there are some weaknesses that Tavares needs to work on if he's to dislodge Tierney at some point in the future.

Holding on to the ball and concentration are listed as the two biggest weak points in his game right now.

Given the speed of Premier League matches, Tavares will have to improve his decision-making whilst in the possession as he potentially comes up against the likes of Mohamed Salah, Jadon Sancho and Riyad Mahrez, meaning he can ill-afford for any lapses in concentration when asked to defend.
