Nuno issues Harry Kane demand as Tottenham boss contemplates return to starting XI

Nuno Espirito Santo says Harry Kane must be focused and in the right frame of mind if he is to be involved in Tottenham ’s Premier League game against Wolves on Sunday.

Kane was not involved in Spurs’ impressive 1-0 win over Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season as he continues to push for a transfer to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Nuno said on Sunday that exclusion was due to lack of match fitness and Kane has since returned to full training with his team-mates.

With 12 days remaining of the summer transfer window, Kane remains determined to force through a big-money move to Man City.

The saga has dominated the news cycle around Tottenham, who have travelled to Portugal to play Pacos de Ferreira in their Europa Conference League play-off first leg on Thursday.

Kane is not a part of what is expected to be a youthful side tonight and Nuno says there are a few hurdles the 28-year-old striker must overcome before he returns to the pitch.

“What we must be sure of is that when we decide to put a player on the pitch, we have to consider all of the aspects,” he said.

“The fitness, the mental aspects. We are here to support all of the players equally.

“Harry, of course, has all of our support. His fitness is getting better each day. He worked today, he is going to work tomorrow and he is going to join the group on Friday.

“On Saturday we will make the decision on who is going to be involved in the next [league] game.”

Kane took to Twitter to post a picture of himself in Spurs training on Wednesday alongside the caption: “Another session in the bank.”

On the outside he is clearly keen to portray a picture of normality, but on the inside he is still pushing hard for a transfer away from his boyhood club.

His problem is that chairman Daniel Levy is steadfast in his refusal to do business with City and unless that changes before the deadline on August 31, he will remain a Spurs player.

For his part, Nuno is not concerned about the continued speculation about his star striker.

“Maybe I am the only one who does not really care about what is being said or written on the outside,” he said.

“With all my respect, it does not really matter. What matters is what is happening behind the doors and what is happening behind the doors is Harry is our player.

“We don’t really pay much attention to what is being said on the outside regarding the situation of Harry.

“Harry is our player, one of the best players in the world and we are very lucky to have him.”
