Nuno Espirito Santo’s brave Cristiano Ronaldo admission as Manchester United confirm transfer

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has previously admitted that he is "not afraid" of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese sealing a sensational return to Manchester United.

The Juventus forward was rumoured to be under consideration by the Red Devils’ great rivals Manchester City in the final few days of the transfer window, but Ole Gunner Solskjaer has beaten Pep Guardiola to his signature.

United announced that they had struck an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Ronaldo, news that triggered differing responses from Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham fans.

Should the move be ratified as expected, Ronaldo is set to line up against Spurs at some point this season.

However, judging from Espirito Santo's previous comments, the north Londoners have nothing to fear, despite the Portuguese admitting that Ronaldo sits amongst the world’s best.

Talking ahead of a clash between former side Valencia and Real Madrid in 2015, the ex-Wolves boss said: "He's the best in history, a perfect machine.

"But fear not, we are not afraid. That word does not exist in football. We think we can beat any opponent and we also have a strong dynamic at home."

There might well be reason for Spurs to be somewhat fearful though, with the now 36-year-old Ronaldo having tormented them during his previous spell as a United player and whilst with Real.

In 18 career appearances against Tottenham, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 10 goals and provided five assists.

He has only been on the losing side against Spurs once in his career, that defeat coming in the group stages of the 2017/18 Champions League.
