Nuno Espirito Santo reveals what he stopped Newcastle from doing in the second half

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo insists that Newcastle United are one of the tougher sides to beat in the Premier League.

The Portuguese manager went into detail after the game and explained how his side snared a point from the black and whites at St James' Park.

Wolves, who finished seventh last term and won on Tyneside in the corresponding fixture, equalised through Jonny with 18 minutes to go.

Nuno underlined what he tried to stop Newcastle from doing on Sunday and said: “It’s not about the points. I feel we performed better in the second half, we were the better team.

"Newcastle are a very organised team, they have clear danger in transitions with Almiron and Maximin, they go really fast.

"We had problems there, but I think second-half we dealt with that situation more and created so much.

"We played good, combined well, both sides with clear chances, so I’m happy and the challenge is to do it in both halves."

The ambition of Wolves has been applauded throughout football after they climbed out of the Championship and made an immediate push for Europe.

Nuno went on: "This is growing, the way we want to be.

"We started three seasons ago, trying to build a team that can adapt to any situation."

Wolves came into the game on Sunday having returned from Slovakia for a win over Slovan Bratislava just 48 hours before.

Nuno added: "We are embracing the challenge.

"We’ve had 20 games, it’s a lot of minutes, a lot of competitions, but the effort we showed in the second-half shows how hard the boys are preparing themselves.

"We started recovering immediately and there’s no days off, so a lot of credit to the boys."
