Nuno Espirito Santo was reluctant to talk too much about the Harry Kane situation after his side's pre-season draw with Chelsea.
Spurs came from two down to secure a draw at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals from Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, but did so without Kane.
The 28-year-old was due to report to Tottenham's training complex Hotspur Way on Monday for a Covid test, as well as some bloodwork tests, but was absent, football.london understands.
The England captain, who took an extended break due to his international commitments with the Three Lions, was recently on holiday in the Bahamas.
Kane has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Manchester City this month, with the Spurs star growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of major honours the north London club have won in his career.
Tottenham's stance over the Kane situation has not changed throughout the summer. He is not for sale.
However, the questions flooded in about Kane on Wednesday evening and Espirito Santo was reluctant to give too much away and spoke about the importance of the matter being solved behind the scenes.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not going to talk about Harry Kane now," the Spurs boss said when asked about the striker.
"Let's discuss about the game, did you watch it?"
Espirito Santo was inevitably asked about the situation again, and replied: "What I believe is this issue in relation to Harry, we should discuss internally.
"Try to avoid any kind of public argument or discussion about it. We have to solve the situation with Kane."
These comments come less than a month after insisting the 2020/21 Premier League Golden Boot winner would remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the end of this transfer window.
"Harry is our player, period," the former Wolves boss said in mid-July.
"No need to talk about anything else.
"Now is the moment for Harry to recover his energy, to rest. When he comes again we will have time to speak.
"We will have good conversations, but now is the moment for Harry to rest and to prepare for what’s coming, and I’m looking forward to him joining the group and start working together.
"I’m excited to work with all the players - of course he’s a top player, one of the best players in the world.
"What is best is to work with the best players around, and Harry’s one of the best players around."
