Nuno Espirito Santo has his own Ossie Ardiles at Tottenham after Fabio Paratici's £21m transfer

Tottenham scraped into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night when they beat Wolves on penalties after throwing away a 2-0 lead in regulation time.

Goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane put Nuno Espirito Santo's side in control at Molineux but Leander Dendoncker pulled one back just before the break and Daniel Podence levelled things in the 58th minute.

But penalty misses from Dendoncker as well as Ruben Neves and Conor Coady ensured the Lilywhites progressed into round four where they will face Burnley at Turf Moor.

One player who caught the eye away from the goalscorers was summer recruit Bryan Gil. The 20-year-old was recruited from Sevilla by director Fabio Paratici for £21 million, plus the services of Erik Lamela, but had yet to make an impact on the first team.

But he impressed in midweek, winning more fouls than any other player on the pitch and also making the most tackles. His display caught the eye of legendary defender Graham Roberts, with the FA Cup winner comparing Gil to another icon, Ossie Ardiles.

"Little @11BryanGil looks like going to be a little superstar has a little bit of @osvaldooardiles about him," Roberts tweeted on Wednesday night.

Gil has made six appearances since making the move to north London. Although he is yet to register a goal for his new side, he is someone the fans have enjoyed watching so far this season.

Ardiles was part of the iconic Spurs side that won back-to-back FA Cups in 1981 and 1982, and scored 25 goals during his time at White Hart Lane.

He was also a member of the Argentina side that won the 1978 World Cup. The diminutive midfielder was known for his dribbling abilities so it is easy to see why Gil has drawn such comparisons.
