Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted he is undecided over whether Harry Kane can play a part against Manchester City this weekend.
The Tottenham striker has continually been linked with a move away from the club this summer having indicated his desire to win trophies at the highest level.
His return to north London has also not gone as smoothly as possible with Kane having failed to report for pre-season testing due to an extended holiday after Euro 2020.
This led to suggestions that the 28-year-old could be attempting to force through a move, a theory rubbished by the player himself via an impassioned statement released on social media.
Since then, Kane has returned and after producing a negative Covid-19 PCR test, has returned to first-team training. However, Nuno Espirito Santo is still unsure over his inclusion in Tottenham's opening match of the season.
The Portuguese, speaking in a pre-match press conference, said: "Harry joined the group today, he trained, we had a talk. Of course it's a private conversation but everything is OK.
"He's preparing himself, like Bryan [Gil], like [Cristian] Romero, players that joined us later. We have to be careful but everything's OK. We still have the session tomorrow to decide on players that don't have too many sessions with us. We have to think and we still have the day of tomorrow to make decisions."
Despite the fact that Kane has returned to Tottenham training as normal, there is still plenty of questions over both his immediate and long-term future. The former Wolves boss admitted that his squad cannot afford to be distracted by transfer rumours as they attempt to better last season's seventh-placed finish.
He added: "Look, we cannot control what's happening outside the building. The news, speculation, rumours.
"All these things that surround us as a club. But we as a group of players we close ourselves. That's the best way to prepare ourselves. Among us cannot be distractions. We're clear what we have to do and we have a shield. We have to protect that shield as best we can."
Kane comes into the 2021/22 campaign surely aiming to add to the three Premier League golden boots he has already managed to amass, the most recent of which coming last season with a 23-goal haul.
Despite rumours of a move elsewhere, he still has three years left to run on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. football.london understands that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not keen on selling.
Nuno has said that whilst Kane remains a Tottenham player, he will be treated as such.
He said: "He's here with us. He's a Tottenham player. He's here with us. We have to think about tomorrow. Let's prepare the training session of tomorrow and go day by day. All the players who work with us are our players."
