Harry Kane is once again not part of the Tottenham squad as they prepare for Thursday's Europa Conference League tie against Pacos de Ferreira.
Only linking up with his teammates at Hotspur Way towards the end of last week after a period of isolation at The Lodge, Nuno Espirito Santo decided against naming the striker in his 20-man squad for Sunday's win over Man City after limited time in training.
The Spurs boss has again elected to allow the England captain to train at their Enfield base instead of travelling to Portugal, with teammates Dele Alli and Steven Bergwijn also missing out of the European tie.
Amid talk of a switch to Man City before the transfer deadline at the end of the month as Pep Guardiola's team look to sign a new striker, Espirito Santo was quizzed on the frontman's absence in his pre-match press conference and asked if he will be fit to play on Sunday at Wolves.
"I cannot answer that. What I can tell you is he's better. He's getting his fitness better and better each day," explained the head coach.
"He worked today, he's going to work tomorrow and he's going to join the group on Friday. And on Saturday we're going to make a decision on who's going to be involved in the next game."
Now working back at Hotspur Way following a break after Euro 2020, Espirito Santo has stated that the player's fitness is getting better by the day.
"He is better than yesterday. And hopefully he is going to be better tomorrow," said the Portuguese. "This is how all the players who are working should be. Day by day. Recovering and progressing in terms of fitness."
When asked if he's spoken to Kane, he added: "We spoke with all the players, on a daily basis. When we are with them, it is normal to speak with all the players."
Ben Davies, who was also previewing the game, was also pressed on Kane and stated that he would rather have the 28-year-old in his team than playing against him.
"For sure. Look, he's one of the world's best strikers and we definitely want him as part of our team," said the left-back.
"He's training with us now but as far as everything else goes it's completely out of my hands. Of course having him in the team is definitely better than not."
Davies also indicated that he is still speaking to Kane, although there haven't been any chats about what is happening regarding all the talk about his future.
"Yeah, as mates more than anything else," added the Welshman. "It's probably a blessing when he just gets to chat to us, not about the whole business side and not about his future.
"There's been no real chats about what's happening."
