Nuno Espirito Santo drops Harry Kane team selection hint amid Manchester City transfer links

Nuno Espirito Santo has dropped a hint on Harry Kane's availability ahead of Spurs' Premier League opener against Manchester City.

Tottenham's footballing director Fabio Paratici has endured a busy summer transfer window as the former Juventus chief has been tasked with rebuilding a squad that has failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in each of the last two seasons.

To freshen the squad up, the Italian has helped to offload several long-serving senior players, with Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld, Argentine winger Erik Lamela and versatile defender Juan Foyth all allowed to leave in recent weeks.

Spurs have then brought in three promising young players in the form of Italian 'keeper Pierluigi Gollini, Spanish playmaker Bryan Gil and centre-half Cristian Romero, who have joined the Lilywhites in a bid to fire them back into top-four contention.

However, it is the future of star striker Harry Kane that has taken up the majority of the headlines this summer as a move to City has been mooted by various outlets, despite the 28-year-old still having three years left on his current deal with the club.

Ironically, Spurs get their Premier League campaign underway against the Citizens on Sunday, a fixture that appeared to be too early for the England captain given he only returned to the club's Hotspur Way training ground over the weekend, although Espirito Santo may have dropped a hint that Kane could be available for the highly-anticipated clash.

"All the players in the squad that work on a daily basis will be options for us", he told Sky Sports News when asked about Kane's availability ahead of the first game of the new season.

While the Portuguese coach didn't specifically reference Kane, his comments do offer a possible hint over the prolific frontman and whether he could be in contention for a place in the team for Sunday's fixture.

But the former Wolves boss' vagueness may indeed reflect the fact that Kane's current isolation period following his holiday in the Bahamas, which means that he is not training on a daily basis at this moment in time.

That could, however, change before the weekend.
