Nuno Espirito Santo confirms crunch talks with West Ham star over future amid transfer rumours

Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Callum Wilson has been in talks with West Ham about his future, just five months after joining the club.

Wilson signed for the Hammers, who are languishing in 18th place in the Premier League table, on a one-year deal in August and has scored four goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.

The 33-year-old started his eighth game of the season during the Irons’ 3-0 defeat to Wolves at the weekend.

However, with the club confirming the signing of strikers Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos over the last week, Wilson’s place in the side has come under jeopardy.

Asked about Wilson’s future, Nuno confirmed he had spoken with the former Newcastle man on Monday morning to inform him that his squad role had changed following the arrivals of Pablo and Castellanos.

“Me and Callum we had a lot of conversations, just 10 minutes ago we were speaking about that situation,” Nuno said in his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

“Two strikers have joined, correct. I personally decided these strikers have joined. Callum is a very experienced man, he’s been in the game for so much time, he knows that his position has changed.

“We were honest with each other. Yes, your position has changed, but you are still a player for the club and we still maybe need him and he should help us cause he joined us.”

Nuno admitted that he did not know what would happen next and if Wilson, who said earlier in the season that he still harbours World Cup aspirations with England, would move on.

“If things go, I don’t know where, or what happens, things that goes beyond my decision making, then we can speak about that,” the Portuguese continued.

“But until that situation me and Callum we have been very honest about each other and the way we communicate.

“Maybe from some time now we will address this issue again, but it is now not the right moment.”
